Prompt - Describe one of your core beliefs. How is that belief see in your life?    One of my core beliefs is the idea of "the Golden Rule." I believe that the whole "treat others the way you want to be treated," should not be taken lightly. I carry this through with me in life, and treat others the way I feel I should be treated. Whether or not I treat people the way they treat me, is different.    I feel as though, treating other people the way they treat me is not always a full on thing I should do. In the matter of kindness, respect, and anything good, then yes I will do so in return.   The objective of this blog post is to answer the following question, posed by Ms. Foushee. " Considering the strict rules and punishments of the Puritan society, was Tituba justified in confessing and naming names to protect herself? Were the other girls? Be sure to support your answer."   I feel as though in their society they  would have taken it poorly that Tituba did that in effort to protect herself. Seeing as though they had not even a hint at the idea of her doing that, I feel as though she isn't doing anything wrong.  In effort to end the controversy for her and the girls, I'd say she took the blame and showed courage and determination to show the girls  that they can't blame themselves fully for what has happened.    Tituba had basically said it was all on her and made it like she had pushed it on the girls.    For Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan is many things. She is a reminder of the past, a past love. She is the so to speak "apple of his eye," in a way. Although she is in a way much like Gatsby in wanting to be wealthy for the sake of materialism. They both are very realistic, so in a way I can imagine it's one of those relationships where it seems like more than it really is.   Gatsby merely is in love with the idea of Daisy and what she stands for. She is very materialistic and goes for money in order to fulfill her materialistic needs. On her end she may see Gatsby as a way to get back at her husband Tom for the affairs he has been having, but Gatsby seems to have some respect for the fact that she is with Tom, considering the fact that Pammy is the daughter of the two.

   Daisy Buchanan. She is the wife to Tom Buchanan, cousin of Nick Carraway, and romantic interest of Jay Gatsby who "happens" to live across the bay from the Buchanan residence. Daisy is married to Tom, but is mostly enrapturing him for the purpose of being happy by using his money. In chapter 2, Myrtle Wilson, Tom's "woman of the moment," as it can be said, brings up Daisy to Tom multiple times, in what to Tom would be a rather annoying and childish manner.   My opinion of Daisy is that she is the girl who was meant for the life opposing the life that she was born into. She has her way of getting what she wants, while on the surface seeming innocent in a way, as well as, very kind and outgoing.   I feel as though Myrtle is another example of one born into the life opposing the life she wants, and personally is a distractor, side fling for Tom.    The book presented was called Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw. The piece was engaging, although the gym may not have been the best location for that group. The lighting reflecting off the book wasn't as appealing, especially being an e-Comm student I would know lighting can make a world of a difference. The buzzing/humming of the lights wasn't very exciting or appealing to hear. Otherwise it was creative and effective.   If I was an elementary student, I wouldn't be choosing this book. That being because elementary me seemed to feel like a grade or more ahead of myself and liked reading chapter books from younger elementary age. Challenged my vocabulary to eventually make 2nd place in an elementary school spelling bee, and as well as in 2nd grade jumped grades ahead of myself on vocabulary, I believe to a 5th grade level almost/at most.

 This blogpost is going to be an analysis of the Wasteland Documentary I watched for english class. In this blogpost the objectives are to describe the context of the piece, talk about the artist's purpose for the art, and analyze the story and the work.    This is an artist from New York, who goes to Brazil and collects recyclables from scavengers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and turns them into art. He does this in effort to "change the lives of the people, with the same material that they deal with everyday," (Vik Muniz). His next plans include working with garbage. The idea is to " [take] people away... from where they are, {to show} them another world, another place," and to see how it affects them and changes them. The landfill they go to,  "Jardim Gramacho (Gramacho Gardens)," is the biggest landfill in the sense of square footage, and of intake of trash per day.    I feel as though child soldiers would be the more pressing issue. There are valid reasons and reasonable arguments for both sides; however, I choose child soldiers for the following reasons.   Being an immigrant means you are getting a fresh start, and a new life in a different country. Escaping a harsh reality and finding a better one to reside in. Immigrants come from countries under dictators, kings or rulers of that manner that, in the opinion of the immigrants, are making life hard for them to actually survive. Immigration is essentially like if I were to leave one school because of the way the administration handled situations and went to another school because the way they handled situations was seen as "more fit" for an environment I'd like to be in.   Child soldiers on the other hand, aren't going from one way of life to another for the purpose of escaping their existing life to find and make a better life somewhere that will encourage and support the...

 

    My position on what it means to be an American I feel follows along with the idea behind I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman and America, I Sing Back by Allison Adelle Hedge Coke. They both talk about how America was built on the work and dedication to making a better life for those who first start migrating to the U.S.     The United States to me is a wonderful place to be, while we don't have some freedoms like the freedom Germany has to have Autobahns, we should consider ourselves lucky to be where we live. Our country was built on hard work and dedication to making a better life for ourselves and those after us. Unfortunately it was also built on a lot of unfortunate and in today's standards, disgraceful ways of living and being towards others. The reason I chose this as my picture to represent America is one that requires good explanation. Film is an open world for creative minds to be free and develop, such as America in the beginning was a place where everyone was "free" to come and develop their life into something better than it was. Film is not a place for everyone, such as America seemed to turn out for many who immigrated in during the creation of the United States.

America is the land of the free, but obviously with some responsibility. We have to work to have the things we have the freedom to call ours. We have to understand that everyone does not share the same views/opinions as we do, and we have to respect them for that. But in the end of the day, we have more freedom than people in other countries. Overall we have it good here, but many can and possibly do take it for granted.   Summarize: we take freedom for granted and that we should be respecting and taking full advantage of the freedom given to us and thankful for the opportunities that other countries don’t. The question posed to me was "What problem do you want to solve in the world?"      The problem I would like to solve would be the problem of people not being open-minded or as open-minded as they could be. I choose that problem because I in general do not enjoy the way people act, especially on the internet when they can make up a random name. That and people can be inconsiderate, because no one thinks twice about what they say.     I feel this is necessary to solve because we would have less controversy, and people wouldn't start protests and things of that manner, at least I'd hope so.
