    My position on what it means to be an American I feel follows along with the idea behind I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman and America, I Sing Back by Allison Adelle Hedge Coke. They both talk about how America was built on the work and dedication to making a better life for those who first start migrating to the U.S.     The United States to me is a wonderful place to be, while we don't have some freedoms like the freedom Germany has to have Autobahns, we should consider ourselves lucky to be where we live. Our country was built on hard work and dedication to making a better life for ourselves and those after us. Unfortunately it was also built on a lot of unfortunate and in today's standards, disgraceful ways of living and being towards others. It was built on hatred, disrespect and mistreatment of many people. The reason I chose this as my picture to represent America is one that requires good explanation. Film is an open world for creative minds to be free and develop, such as America in the beginning was a place where everyone was "free" to come and develop their life into something better than it was. Film is not a place for everyone, such as America seemed to turn out for many who immigrated in during the creation of the United States.
